Endangered Animals

Africa's Western Black Rhino is Now Officially Extinct :-(

Africa’s Western black rhino is now officially extinct, according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The last time a black rhino was seen in the wild was 2006. The survey revealed that one quarter of all mammals are at risk of extinction, as are many plant species.
Sometimes when you read about things in a book it doesn't feel very real but this news report and photo tell and story that's very real and very sad. You can learn about other endangered animals at  Kid's Planet a part of the Defenders of Wildlife. The Defenders have been working to protect our nation's wildlife since 1947.
